Northern Area Highlight Course

Route: Ise Jingu Naiku (Naiku-mae Bus Stop) → Geku Entrance (Iseshi Sta., Geku-mae Bus Stop)

This is a beginner-friendly route with very little elevation change and many highlights. You can visit Oharai-machi, Ise Furuichi Sangu Kaido Museum, and Sengukan along the way.

Route: Tamaru Station (Tamarujo-ato(Tamakicho yakuba) Bus Stop) → Tamaru Station (same location)

After completing their pilgrimage to Ise Jingu, pilgrims donned their pilgrimage attire in Tamaru before setting out on their journey to Kumano Sanzan. This route allows visitors to explore Tamaru Castle Keep remains, including the only surviving Fujimimon-gate, and wander through the castle town while stopping by Murayama Ryohei Museum and Genkosha.

Route: Narukawa Bus Stop → Higashi-Okase Bus stop

The first pass to cross on the Kumano Kodo Iseji is Meki-toge Pass. This pass remains dim even during the day, and the cut-through path on Senmaigan rock formations evokes the long history and charm of the ancient trail. Public transportation provides access to the Meki-toge trailhead.

Route: Misegatani Sta. (Michinoeki Okuiseoodai Bus Stop) → Takihara Sta. (Taikicho Bus Stop)

The route has a nearby station and bus stop, making it ideal with a moderate walking distance, duration, and elevation gain. You can also stop by Takihara-jinja and Michi-no-Eki Okuise Kitsutsuki-kan.
By making a separate reservation and taking a slight detour from the main route, you can experience Mise-no-Watashi Ferry, which was once used by pilgrims to cross Miyagawa River.
